This weight of guilt, shame, and defectiveness we carry keeps us from connecting with others in the way that we truly desire.  It does not have to be that way.  When my clients say, at the end of the session, "I feel like a weight has been lifted," or "I feel like we really heard each other for the first time," I feel privileged to have been part of that process. 

My personal views of the counseling process: People are bound up and pinned down by the pain they carry.  My role is to facilitate a new freedom and walk with my clients as they become who they were created to be. 

Because of my personal and clinical experiences, I am prepared to walk through your pain with you. 

Marriage is an exciting adventure, but sometimes there are bumps in the road.  I would love to help you navigate the course.  The opportunity to emotionally prepare for the journey ahead is a gift to you both.  By clearing out past pain, fear, and expectations, you can meet your wedding day with the joy you both deserve. 

 My husband and I used to joke that we were going through everything a couple could face so that we would be able to help others walk through it also.  Now we see that was no joke.  In 20 years we have moved 11 times, been in an out of graduate school and changed jobs 8 times or more.  I know what transition feels like!  We have also experienced the loss of our first born. I know first hand the immobilizing pain of grief, anxiety, and depression. 

 I learned early in my marriage how distance and strain can leave room for infidelity. It can be so easy to slip into and so hard to heal from. Having worked with many couples facing this intense rejection, I can help you heal and rebuild also. This doesn't have to break you. If you are committed to do the work, your marriage may become better than it ever was. 

 We now have two great kids, including a teenager with Asperger's syndrome.  We are also certified foster parents with a revolving door of children and teens presenting us with new ways to grow and learn.  Caring for children with various behavioral diagnoses and learning disabilities, it is a daily challenge to process our reactivity and parent according to what we truly value.  I can help you do the same and find joy in the parenting process. 

 I can also offer faith-based counseling.  While I am not bound to it or limited by it, I am capable of it.  I believe that God wants us to get free from the lies that have restricted us so that we can feel His love more completely and discover the blessing and true joy He has planned for our lives
